Milperra Public School ANZAC Mural Case Study
Project Overview
Blackbook Ink was engaged to design and deliver a commemorative school mural for Milperra Public School in Sydney, creating an artwork that reflects remembrance, history and shared values through a site-responsive ANZAC mural.
The project was developed to create a meaningful visual tribute within the school environment — using mural storytelling to connect students with themes of service, reflection and national memory.
Delivered by experienced mural artists in Sydney the mural forms part of Blackbook Ink’s broader approach to creating educational artworks with relevance and purpose.
The Approach
The mural was developed through a community mural process with the concept designed to balance symbolic meaning with a strong visual presence suited to the site.
The final design incorporated:
- Soldier silhouettes moving across the wall in procession
- A warm orange and red sunset forming a dramatic backdrop
- The Southern Cross positioned across the night sky
- Poppies in the foreground as a symbol of remembrance
- The words Lest We Forget centred at the base of the mural
The artwork was designed as a site-specific mural
using layered symbolism to create a respectful and visually engaging commemorative piece.
The Outcome
The completed mural transformed the wall into a permanent visual tribute that supports remembrance within the school environment.
The impact:
- Creates a meaningful ANZAC memorial through public artwork
- Supports educational conversations around history and remembrance
- Enhances the visual identity of the school
- Activates the space through a purpose-driven mural outcome
- Creates a lasting focal point for students, staff and the wider school community
Similar education-focused outcomes can also be seen in our Ambarvale High School mural project
and Madang Avenue Public School mural program
where murals are used to strengthen connection between learning environments and place.
Why It Works
Murals can do more than enhance a space — they can help communicate values and preserve shared stories.
By grounding the design in symbolism and place, the Milperra Public School ANZAC mural has:
- Created a respectful and visually powerful commemorative artwork
- Embedded storytelling into the school environment
- Delivered long-term value through durable, site-responsive design
- Demonstrated how murals can support both education and remembrance
