Project Overview
Blackbook Ink was engaged by Greenwood Early Education to deliver murals across multiple new childcare centres prior to opening creating welcoming, visually engaging environments for young learners.
The project required a balance between brand consistency across multiple locations and site-specific design responses, ensuring each centre felt cohesive while still unique to its environment.
The Approach
The rollout was delivered across several sites, with a clear visual direction established for the majority of locations.
For centres in Gladesville, Katoomba, and Brookvale, we developed a signature style featuring:
-
Geometric animal designs
-
Soft, flowing wave-like backgrounds
-
Bright, approachable colour palettes suited to early learning environments
This approach created a consistent and recognisable visual language across multiple centres supporting Greenwood’s brand identity while enhancing the learning environment.
Site-Specific Design — Penrith
For the Penrith location, the approach shifted to respond directly to the physical environment of the space.
Rather than applying the geometric style, the mural was designed as a nature-based scene integrated into the playground.
Key considerations included:
-
Blending the artwork seamlessly with surrounding play elements
-
Designing around features such as a rock climbing wall
-
Creating a mural that feels embedded within the landscape rather than applied to it
This resulted in a more immersive environment where the mural becomes part of the overall play experience.
The Outcome
The completed rollout delivered a series of engaging, child-friendly environments across multiple Greenwood centres each tailored to its setting while maintaining a strong visual identity.
The impact:
-
Creates welcoming and stimulating spaces for children and families
-
Establishes consistency across multiple locations
-
Enhances early learning environments through colour and storytelling
-
Integrates art with play in site-specific contexts
The murals now form part of each centre’s identity contributing to both first impressions and everyday experiences.
Why It Works
This project demonstrates the importance of balancing consistency with flexibility.
By establishing a core visual style and adapting it where needed, Greenwood Early Education has:
-
Maintained brand cohesion across multiple sites
-
Delivered environments suited to different physical layouts
-
Created engaging spaces tailored to early childhood development
-
Ensured each centre feels both connected and unique
