Birrong Public School – Nature-Inspired Murals

Since 2018, Blackbook Ink has worked closely with Birrong Public School to transform their campus into a vibrant, nature-filled learning environment. What began as a single mural on a demountable wall has grown into a series of 14+ large-scale artworks, each celebrating Australia’s unique wildlife and fostering creativity among students.

A Growing Canvas of Native Wildlife

From rainbow lorikeets and kookaburras to galahs, fairy wrens, and curious possums, each mural brings the school’s walls to life with vivid, engaging designs. The artworks serve as more than just decoration—they spark conversations about local ecosystems, inspire young minds, and turn everyday spaces into immersive learning experiences.

Expanding the Vision: Playgrounds & Water Tanks

Following the success of the initial murals, the school commissioned additional works, including a dynamic playground corner piece and a storytelling water tank mural.

• Playground Wall: A graffiti-inspired extension of the original lorikeet mural, featuring more native birds mid-flight, including two galahs in playful conversation. The bold colours and movement energize the space, making it a favourite among students.
• Water Tank: A whimsical scene of a blue tongue lizard reaching for a snail along a winding branch—adding charm to the school grounds while subtly encouraging curiosity about local wildlife.
